The land mystic splendor

It is the second smallest state of India. It was an monarchy ruled by Chogyals till 1975 before it joined the Indian union. Sikkim shares border with Nepal in the west, Tibet in the north, Bhutan in the east and the rest with the state of West Bengal in India. Situated in the Himalayan ranges it is known for its diversified flora and fauna. The state is ranges ranging between 300 meters and 8583 meters. The highest elevation is Mount Kanchendzonga, the third highest peak in the world. The state is divided into four district i.e. East district, West district, South district and the North district. Sikkim is home to the Mahayana form of Buddhism and it has more than 150 monasteries also known as colourful Gompas. Kanchendzonga National Park, Kyongnosla Alpine Sanctuary, Shingba Rhododendrons Sanctuary and Meanam Wildlife Sanctuary are the four main wild life center of Sikkim. State animal is Red Panda / Ailurus fulgens, State bird is Blood Pheasant, State flower is Noble Orchid and the State tree is Rhododendron.

Gangtok

The capital of sikkim

Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim and is a lovely tourist spot seen to be believed. It is the home of Orchids and butterflies. With the views of the great Himalayan range in the distance are the snow peaks and on the streets amidst brightly painted pagoda roofed houses, lined with friendly people, it has become the hotspot for tourist and traveler. The mysticism, the stupas, the monasteries are all colourful and full of life. It is also the base for places like Nathu La Pass, Yumthang, Gurudongmar Lake, Chopta valley, Mangan, Yumesomdong, Green Lake, Arhitar Lake, Memencho Lake, Pelling, Ravangla etc. Gangtok is a very clean city and the centre of commercial activities.

How to reach

By Air – Nearest major Airport is Bagdogra Airport nearly 130 kilometers from Gangtok. There is a helicopter service to Bagdogra Airport from Gangtok and can be chartered.
By RailThere is no railway system in Sikkim. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri station in Siliguri which 135 kilometers away. New Jalpaiguri is well linked up with the rest of India.  
By Road - Gangtok is well connected with road from Siliguri, Kalimpong, Gangtok and the road is maintained by the Border Road Organization. National highway number 31 A connects Siliguri with Gangtok.
