kalimpong has a peaceful atmosphere

The peaceful ambience might be for the nature of the people and the presence of monasteries and churches. It is located in the state of West Bengal, adjacent to the state of Sikkim and close to the Teesta River. At an elevation of 1250 meters and is 55 kilometers from Darjeeling and nearly 80 kilometers from Gangtok. The weather is cool. Summers are mild and extend from April till June; winters are cold and last from November to February. It experiences heavy monsoon rains in July till September. This is also known for its busy bazaars, nurseries and traditional handicrafts. The nurseries are famous for its orchids, gladioli and cactus. It also offers panoramic view of the great Himalayan ranges. It is centrally located and is well connected with all the tourist hotspots of the region. Kalimpong is centrally located and all the popular hill stations are nearby. Pelling, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Dooars are all close by. Lava Lolaygaon, Rishyab, Neora Valley are in the vicinity.

How to reach

By Air – The nearest major airport is Bagdogra nearly 90 kilometers from Kalimpong. The Bagdogra airport is the main airport and is situated in the outskirts of Siliguri. Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Chennai flights are available on daily basis. Helicopter services are also available for Sikkim.
By RailThere is no railway network in Kalimpong town. The nearest railway station is Bagrakote and Sevoke but the frequency of trains is less. Major railway station is New Jalpaiguri station 90 kilometers away. From New Jalpaiguri regular trains are available from Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum, Patna etc.
By RoadThere is good network of road connecting Kalimpong. The main route to Kalimpong is an offshoot of national highway number 31A and the other road via Lava connects it to national highway number 31. Its 2 – 3 hours drive to Siliguri.

This hill resort at Mirik is a tourist hotspot centered round the Sumendu Lake. This hamlet is a peaceful and tranquil hill resort of Darjeeling. It is a breath taking hill resort with several spots worth visiting. . Wild flowers, lovely lake and forests of Cryptomaria Japanica trees make this a paradise for tourist. Best known for leisure holidays surrounded by the most beautiful tea estates of the region. This region is pleasant all through the year and the summers are mild. It is situated at a distance of 55 kilometers and is at an elevation of 1,768 meters. Sumendu Lake is surrounded by forested ridge and a flower garden and has a boating facilities. Pashupati shopping in Nepal is nearby. For adventure seekers treks from Mirik to Sandakphu, Falut, Kurseong via Balasan River are quite popular.

Major railway station is New Jalpaiguri station 60 kilometers away. From New Jalpaiguri regular trains are available from Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum, Patna etc.
By Road – There is good network of road connecting Mirik. There is an offshoot of national highway number 31 and the other road via Lava connects it to national highway number 55. It’s maximum of 2 hours drive to Siliguri.
