A valley in the foothills of Himalaya

Dooars means door and is suppose to be the door to Bhutan and the neighboring states of India. It is a valley in the foothills of Himalaya. It stretches across a total span of nearly 130 kilometers by 40 kilometers. The stretch of virgin forests is crossed by the river Teesta, Torsha, Raidak, Torsha, Jaldhaka, Kalchini and their tributaries. The stretch is extends with motor able roads cutting through deep forests teeming with wild life and Terai tea garden. The valley is known for its wild life sanctuaries like Jaldapara, Buxa Tiger Project, Gorumara, Chilapata, Neora valley and Chapramari. Murti is 75 kilometers, Malbazar is 55 kilometers, Chalsa is 64 kilometers, Teesta Barrage is 60 kilometers, Samsing is 85 kilometers, and Toto Para is 150 kilometers from Siliguri. Phuentsholing in Bhutan is 165 kilometers from Siliguri the border city of Bhutan, a major gateway to Bhutan. Alipurduar in Dooars is also a junction and is the hub of Dooars activity. Jayanti is 30 kilometers from Alipurduar, Cooch Behar is 40 kilometers, Bhutanghat is 45 kilometers, Buxa Fort is 33 kilometers, Chilapata is nearly 20 kilometers and Rajabhatkhawa is 15 kilometers from Alipurduar. Welcome to Jaldapara

This Park is located in the flood plains of river Torsha. It lies at Madarihat Block in Jalpaiguri district. The total area is nearly over 200 square kilometer. The entry point is from Madarihat, close to national highway number 31 in between Hashimara and Birpara. About 55 kilometer away from Alipurduar. The nearest railway station is Falakata nearly 22 kilometer from Madarihat. Famous for the Jungle Safari and elephant ride among rhinos, bison, deer, elephants, peacocks etc. Kalimpong, Darjeeling, Gangtok, Pelling are also assessable from Dooars. Hollong is nearby and is famous for elephant ride. Buxa Tiger Reserve - The reserve is in Alipurduar of Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal, India. It shares the northern boundary with Bhutan and the eastern side is shared by Assam. National Highway No.31 C is its southern boundary. Phipsu Wildlife Sanctuary of Bhutan is contiguous and so is Manas Tiger Reserve. It is the corridor for elephant migration between India and Bhutan. One can spot various species like Indian Tiger, Leopard, Indian Elephant, Gaur, Sambhar, Barking deer, Hog deer, Cheetal, Wild Boar, Porcupine, Jungle Cat, Indian Civet, Wild Buffalo, 3 varieties of Pythons, Rhesus Macaque, Peacock, Jungle Fowl, Monitor Lizards, Mongoose, tortoise etc. Cooch Behar is a historical city with Palace and Temple and beautiful lakes and water bodies. Phuentsholing is the entry point to Bhutan and its building Monastery and various other sites are worth visiting. Suntalekhola is small picturesque village literally known as Suntaley` means orange and `Khola` means stream. The approach road from Dooars is picturesque and from there the view of Himalayas, hills of Bhutan and Jelep La pass connecting Tibet with India is on offer.

How to reach

By Air - Dooars is well connected by airways to some of the major cities of India. Several airlines like Jet, Indian, Spice airlines etc. fly in and out of Assam. The Bagdogra airport at Siliguri is the main airport and is situated in the outskirts of Siliguri. Kolkata, Delhi, Guwahati and Chennai flights are available on daily basis. Helicopter services are also available for Sikkim.
By Rail – The major railway station is New Jalpaiguri railway station near Siliguri is connected with several super fast trains from Kolkata, the north east and other parts of the country. A meter gauge railway service connects Siliguri and Cooch Behar via Alipurduar. Dooars has a many railway station like Sevoke, Bagrakote, Chalsa, Malbazar, Rajabhatkhawa, Hashimara, and Alipurduar etc on this track. which is again connected to New Jalpaiguri station. From New Jalpaiguri regular trains are available from Kolkata, New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Cochin and Trivandrum, Patna etc.
By Road – State Transport Corporation operate a large network of buses around the region of Dooars. Private vehicles are also available. The roads are generally good and hired cars regularly ply between Siliguri and these destinations. National park of Gorumara is 75 kilometers, Chapramari is 68 kilometers, Buxa Tiger Reserve is nearly 200 kilometers and the Jaldapara sanctuary is 124 kilometers from Siliguri.
